Power crews fix broken glass insulators in Sherrill

SHERRILL — The Sherrill-Kenwood Power and Light Department completed work to replace the broken glass insulators located on the north structure of the 115KV ground operated air break switch.

The problems with the insulators were discovered this winter during the department’s routine substation inspections, according to a statement by city officials on Wednesday.

This maintenance work prevented a “catastrophic failure which would have caused a significant power outage,” the statement added.
